Nestled in the heart of suburban New Jersey, a mere 12 miles from the vibrant pulse of Philadelphia, Saddlehill sits as an oasis spanning over 70 acres of vineyards and preserved farmland. Opening Spring 2024, our spacious tasting room overlooks the vineyards, farm, horse pastures, and flower gardens. Saddlehill is set to become a distinguished destination with a 175-seat farm-to-table kitchen and tasting room. Opening for lunch and dinner, our establishment will serve menu items crafted primarily from farm-produced ingredients. As part of our retail offerings, we will sell our estate-crafted wines and a variety of foods made from ingredients grown on-site, including jams, sauces, spreads, and honey. We strive to make the tasting room a beautiful place for our customers to unwind and enjoy world-class wine and food pairings.

JOB SUMMARY

Key Responsibilities

  • Services the restaurant with all wine orders, including wine flights, wine by the glass and wine by the bottle
  • Serves correct wine pours at all times and follows proper service procedures
  • Provides accurate and detailed information about all wines, including tasting notes, pairings, regions, and production methods
  • Has a thorough understanding of Saddlehill’s wine portfolio and can make wine recommendations according to guest’s preferences
  • Has knowledge of all Saddlehill offerings and can talk about all wine club offers, wine flights and special events
  • Check ID’s to verify age.
  • Familiar with food menu, can describe each dish and can make wine pairing suggestions 
  • Responsible for overall cleanliness of the wine bar, stocking of wine glasses and wines 
  • Follows and completes all assigned side work, helps team members as needed. 
  • Operates the POS system for wine sales, handles transactions accurately and efficiently
  • Handles cash payments correctly 

Qualifications/ Skills 

  • Previous experience preferred in a full service restaurant, preferably in a wine bar or tasting room. 
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to convey complex information about wines in an approachable and engaging manner
  • Exceptional customer service skills, with a friendly and helpful attitude towards customers. 
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate verbally in English. 
  • Able to stand, walk for longer periods of time. 
  • Ability to work flexible shifts and days of the week including holidays/ weekends. Enthusiastic and knowledgeable about wine. 
  • Has reliable transportation and is on time. 
  • TIPS Certification required
  • Bonus: wine certifications from WSET, CSW or Court of Masters
